EXCELLENT REVIEW FROM BOURNEMOUTH!!!

Here’s a rather splendid review of the recent Venomfest show in Bournemouth that we played alongside Trippy Wicked, Mother Corona, In The Hills, Skeleton and Voodoo Pistols. Thanks to Rock Regeneration for the kid words.

“The Anvil, Bournemouth

Venomfest III

Voodoo Pistols, Mother Corona, Skeleton, In The Hills, Grifter, Trippy
Tonight saw the third Venomfest at The Anvil, boasting “Bournemouth’s ONLY stoner, doom and heavy groove gatherings”.

I didn’t catch the Voodoo Pistols and just caught the last song from Mother Corona. It’s getting better… I completely missed ‘em last time!

Mother Corona

Skeleton bought the doom in. Their Sabbath influenced heavy riffs drawing the crowd down from upstairs and getting heads banging. In The Hills reign supreme, their tunes are as heavy as a bucket load of bricks and they get better every time I see ‘em!

In The Hills

In The Hills 1-2-3-4-5

Grifter tore the Anvil a new one 3 months back and they returned to repeat the performance. Their Hard rock riffs laced with blues get the crowd grooving. Always a class act, they unleash their killer tunes with unbridled passion and throw in a Black Sabbath cover for good measure.

It’s Trippy Wicked and the Cosmic Children of the Knight’s first time at the Anvil and the place was packed. They let loose and soon everybody was grooving their socks off. Massive riffs pounded the Anvil basement and the unique vocal style of Pete added an extra level to the show. It was one groove laden track after another and the crowd was lapping it up. So much so that when the band finish the audience demand another and when that’s done… another after that!

Trippy

The band look physically moved at the emotional response level from the crowd, also physically drained as they are giving their all and it gets well hot in the Anvil. They finally finish before passing out and thank everyone for a great night.

Venomfest III was a major success and I’m looking forward to Venomfest IV on May the 4th 2013.
Groove on!”

INCREDIBLE ALBUM REVIEW FROM ROCK REGENERATION!!!

The album has been out a year now but it’s still getting some love. Here’s a cracking review by Dan O’Gara at Rock Regeneration.

“riff
noun
1. a melodic phrase, often constantly repeated, forming an accompaniment or part of an accompaniment for a soloist.”

Do you love a good riff? I know I do and when I want my riff delivered, I want it delivered with a ton of groove and a beer & a shot on the side! Plymouth based rockers Grifter have razor sharp axes and cut one hell of a groove. I have had the pleasure of seeing them live and their 70′s tinged, boogie, rock and roll is phenomenal. This self-titled album has been available for a year now and I wish I’d got it when it was released as I missed a whole year without it blasting out of my stereo.

As mentioned before, the album is a riff heavy monster, with more hooks than a fisherman’s tackle-box. Indeed Its one of those albums that you always find yourself reaching for. In the car; what Cd shall I listen to? Grifter of course! In the house; what shall I listen to? Grifter of course! On the iPod; what am I in the mood for? Grifter of course! It just seems that for any occasion I can whack this on and let the music do its funky stuff. Down and dirty hard blues rock is the order of the day, churned out with a pinch of Southern boogie-rock.

Grifter

There isn’t really a bad track on the record; so I’ll tell you my stand out favourites. Opener Good Day for Bad News is a class act and Alabama Hotpocket is pure filth. Young Blood, Old Veins has a riff to die for as does Asshole Parade. Strip Club and Piss & Gas sneak up; kick you in the scrotum and run off laughing like loonies. For fans of Clutch, Foghat, ZZ Top and Gentlemen Pistols.

All in all an outstanding effort from one of the South West’s best rock outfits!
